About Department
Department of English, established in 2020-21, offers UG Programme in English. The syllabus of both the programmes is framed by the affiliating University i.e. Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The syllabus is highly useful for students to acquire basic communication skills, soft skills, life skills, etc. It introduces students with English language, literature and its various genres.
The Department runs certificate courses to help students to improve language skills, build communicative competence and develop research aptitude.

Mission |
The Mission of the Department of English is stated through various objectives as per the subject areas are as follows:
I) Language:
- To acquaint the students with English grammatical forms and structures
- To enable the students to learn conversational skills
- To enable the students to apply spoken and written skills
- To promote the students to increase their interest and knowledge about phonetic aspects of R.P. English
- To inculcate phonological competence among students
- To acquaint the students with the job opportunities in the various areas such as teaching, advertisement, hotel management, translators, BPO, tourist guides, media-live and print, administrative services, industries, sales representative, etc.
II) Literature:
- To foster the ability to study literature as the mirror of society
- To promote students to compose poems, write literary works like play, short story.
- To foster and promote an innovative literary temper through writing among the students
- To acquaint the students with the history of English literature, and movements with the salient features and cultural backgrounds through the major eras.
- To acquaint the students with the major writers in English through the study of their representative literary works.
- To promote students to understand and grasp the major literary terms, theories, concepts, aspects and elements of the literary forms of various ages.
- To acquaint the students with the major genres, trends and movements of English Literature
- To promote and develop the interest of students to write novels, dramas, poems, etc.
- To acquaint the students with the emergence, growth and development of English literature around the world especially during the 20th century.
- To inculcate among students a linking for the prescribed literary works and newly published prize-winner literary works at international level.
- To make the students aware of the role of literature in the formation and reformation of society.
III) Criticism:
- To develop among students the ability to interpret, analyze and evaluate any literary work
- To enable the students to appreciate and criticize the major literary forms such as poems, novels, dramas, etc.
- To acquaint and introduce the students with the major terms, concepts, theories and trends in literary criticism.
- To strengthen the skills and ability among students to analyze all forms of literary forms of expression such as poetry, fiction, non-fiction, drama etc.
